CBA Implementation and Distribution

Several additional provisions of the 2013-2016 collective bargaining agreement have been implemented since the Faculty Senate last met in December, including the open enrollment of domestic partner benefits and the one-time payment of $244 in most faculty members’ December 13 paychecks. Hard copies of the new CBAs are being distributed to UFF members and are available to everyone free online at our website or for $7.20 from Amazon.

CBA Implementation

Several provisions of the 2013-2016 collective bargaining agreement have been implemented since the Faculty Senate last met, including raises for promotions, performance and sustained performance, merit, competitive adjustments, and of course, administrative discretion increases. Most faculty members also will see a one-time payment in their December 13 paycheck. This bonus will be around $200. Reclassifications for Specialized Faculty should be completed this month as well.

Ratification Complete, Salary Increase Implementation

As I reported last month, the UFF-FSU faculty team and the administration/trustees team concluded negotiations for our 2013-2016 collective bargaining agreement. The final tally from last month’s ratification voting was 206 “yes” and 2 “no” and one provisional ballot. Negotiations Concluded

Certainly a lot has happened since the last meeting of the Faculty Senate in April. Most importantly, the UFF-FSU faculty team and the administration/trustees team concluded negotiations for our 2013-2016 collective bargaining agreement. The highlights include salary and benefits improvements, such as:

  • Promotion increases of 12% and 15%,
  • Performance pay increases of 1.1% to nearly all faculty,
  • Merit increases averaging 0.6%,
  • Competitive adjustment permanent increases of $1,000 for faculty earning more than $40,000 and $1,400 for faculty earning $40,000 or less
  • Sustained performance increases of 3% for full professors and eminent scholars in rank for 7 years who have not already received a sustained performance or salary plan for professors increase,
  • More than $1.3 million authorized for discretionary salary increases,
  • Domestic Partner Benefits, and the
  • Extension of eligibility for paid parental leave to C&G faculty.

Consultation, Ballots, and Bargaining

Much has happened since our last meeting. Since the March Faculty Senate meeting we held a consultation with President Barron and Provost Stokes and other top administrators. The discussion was wide-ranging and cordial.

That same day we counted ballots in the UFF-FSU Chapter elections. As you probably know, Professor Jennifer Proffitt is our new President. I am pleased to be a Vice President once again.

Earlier this month, chief negotiators for the faculty and administration/trustees teams exchanged lists of contract provisions they intend to renegotiate this year. The lists are fairly lengthy. The teams will roll up their sleeves starting May 15th – negotiating new provisions to take effect July 1st or as soon as possible thereafter.
